Uganda High Commission, London is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual for the position of Receptionist at its office located in Central London, UK.

Purpose of the job

To be the main point of call at reception and to provide high quality and customer focussed receptionist services to Mission's visitors and callers.

Main Responsibilities/Job description

You will be the main point of call at the reception and your tasks will involve the following:

  1. Welcoming and providing access to visitors at the reception, informing respective Mission staff/individuals of visitor arrivals.
  2. Responsibility for the Mission switchboard, answering all phone calls at reception.
  3. Providing basic information on processes for Ugandan passport applications, visas, national Identity cards and dual citizenship certificates; directing more detailed inquiries to the right department or officer when necessary .
  4. Receiving and distributing incoming mail to Administrative Attache.
  5. Liaising with Head of Chancery on matters requiring IT support from Telecommunication companies for effective operation of Mission telephone lines
  6. Any other duties as may be assigned.

  1. Delivering quality customer/client service: The Mission is seeking an organised professional who can deliver quality service to diverse customer needs and requirements while paying attention to details.
  2. Delivering quality and timely performance with motivation and results- orientation.
  3. Working as part of a team: Maintaining a positive and professional working relationship with Mission staff.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be a strong team player who can offer high standards of service to a diverse range of customers.  We are looking for someone that can demonstrate attributes of integrity, honesty and objectivity.


  1. Fluent communication skills in English both spoken and written.
  2. Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar job (Receptionist/Customer Service) preferably in a diplomatic Mission or international organisation.
  3. Proven track record in receptionist work/customer service role.
  4. Highly organised with strong organisational skills.  
  5. Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook.
  6. Ability to work with minimum supervision.


Desirable qualifications:


Minimum of Advanced Level certificate with professional qualification in public relations,  customer service, or secretarial studies. Candidates with Diploma or degree qualifications will have an added advantage.


Working Hours and Remuneration

The position is full-time; Mission working days are Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (with a lunch break between 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.). Leave entitlement is 21 days per annum. The successful candidate will be subjected to a six months' probationary period.  The annual salary is '22,000 with asocial security contribution equivalent to one months' salary per annum.


This is a locally recruited position and a successful candidate will be a resident of UK or have a valid UK work permit obtained at their own expense. Staff recruited locally by Uganda High Commission are subject to terms and conditions of service specified in their respective contracts and in accordance with local labour laws.
