Uganda High Commission, London hosts 61st Independence day celebrations at International Maritime Organisation
Uganda High Commission in London hosted the 61st Independence day celebrations on the 12th October 2023 at International Maritime Organisation, London.
The celebrations, under the theme “Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation: Taking Charge of Our Future as a Free Nation” brought together over 400 participants including officials from UK Government, Ugandan diaspora members, friends of Uganda and the Diplomatic Corps.
The celebrations reflected on the country’s continuous advancement on its socio-economic transformation journey.
In her statement, Uganda’s High Commissioner to UK also accredited to Ireland, H.E Nimisha Madhvani, highlighted the significant achievements made under the leadership of H.E. President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM Government.
She underscored the importance of strengthening mutually beneficial commercial and economic ties between Uganda and United Kingdom. In addition, she called upon the UK business communities including Ugandans in the Diaspora to seize the valuable investment opportunities in Uganda especially in agriculture and agro-processing(value addition), infrastructure, , tourism, oil and gas, ICT, pharmaceuticals and development of Industrial parks to boast the Economy.
The UK Government was represented by the Director General Department of Africa and Latin America, Ms. Harriet Mathews in the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office.
The Director General congratulated Uganda on reaching her 61st Independence celebration and reiterated UK’s commitment to strengthen the good cordial relationship with Uganda for mutual benefits especially in the areas of Trade, investment, infrastructure, oil and gas, security, Human rights and governance.
Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi, Special Envoy of the President and former Prime Minister also attended the reception. He highlighted the challenges and achievements of the country on its social transformation Journey. Among other speakers were Ms. Peninah Kabagambe - Senior Manager, Strategic Partnerships, NSSF, Ms. Hellen K. Musubika - Manager, High Net-worth and Diaspora, Housing Finance Bank and a representative of Ugandan Diaspora, Mr. Joel Kibazo.
